Whitlow Enterprises LLC*

Whitlow Enterprises LLC welcomes you to smoke school. We place our emphasis on customer service to offer expert training with fun. During each smoke school we offer a free Cajun cookout or wild beast feast for lunch. Uncle George Whitlow will be conducting all of the field-testing at each school. He is retired from Louisiana DEQ where he has issued over 8,000 certificates. You will receive lots of coaching and training. You could win a prize for being the best smoke reader ever. Whitlow never leaves a training location unless all attendees have been certified.

Our goal is to successfully train your employees in Method 9, Opacity Reading and Method 22. We also help your employees develop strong proficiency in reading opacity ranges most common to industrial plant emissions of the 21st Century. Most companies have invested strongly in compliance with the Clean Air Act and consequently have very low opacity readings. We strive to be realistic during our Method 9 certification testing to concentrate on opacity ranges from zero to thirty percent. We do present a few readings from thirty percent to one hundred percent to comply with EPA test requirements. However, most of our efforts concentrate on zero to thirty percent opacity. We are audited by the EPA and we meet and exceed their federal standards.

We specially design our certification testing to resemble university standards for adult continuing education. In continuing education, adults sign up for a class, they pay their fees, they expect to pass, and they earn a certificate. We strive to make each test as easy as possible to pass. We do not give any trick readings and we do not jump around form high to low and vice versa. Real smoke plumes do not do this and we don't either. We don't conduct testing where we expect a certain amount of people to fail and we don't grade on a curve. We expect everyone to pass, usually on the first time they attempt the test. We do not leave any location until every one passes. Please come with a positive attitude. Attitude is everything. Come expecting to have a good time. We want you to have fun, we want you to pass, and we want you to come back.

Whitlow will offer semiannual workshops at various plants, parks or camps in or near Arkansas. We will consider any location you suggest where 12 or more attendees will show up. Uncle George was born and bred in Louisiana and spent most of his life hunting and fishing on the bayous. He can skin a buck and run a trotline. He tells hunting and fishing yarns during smoke schools.

Beginning October 23, we will streamline the agenda. The field-test will start at 9 AM the first day, the classroom is at 1, along with another field-test simultaneously, with the classroom. A person will be able to pass the field-test in the morning and take the classroom in the afternoon. We will also run another field-test the second day at 8 AM. We are also implementing new test procedures that will make the test easier and it will imitate the real world opacity field readings of the 21st century. We will focus on readings from zero to 50 percent. We will have several identical readings at the same opacity. We will add a few readings from 50 to 75. We will tell you when we go above 50 percent. We expect everyone to pass the first test and you should be back at work before noon. And don't forget the free Cajun catfish.

AeroMet Engineering Inc*

AeroMet personnel have been conducting visible emissions training (smoke school) throughout the United States for over two decades and in Arkansas for over five years. The reputation of AeroMet’s smoke school is evident by the vast range of environmental professionals who keep returning to their schools. Environmental managers, directors, attorneys, regulatory personnel, engineers and process professionals are just a few of the attendees at an AeroMet smoke school. Here are a few reasons why:

Lecture. Conventional smoke schools have a classroom lecture the day before the field-training event. AeroMet is the first and only smoke school provider to offer the lecture on an interactive CD. The CD is sent out before the field-training event and is viewable on a standard computer. The lecture CD can be viewed at your own pace when your time allows. No additional travel expenses or lost time occurs from sending a trainee to a conventional two-day smoke school.

Q&A Session. AeroMet offers a question and answer session prior to each field-training event. This allows trainees to ask specific questions about the lecture CD or visible emissions observations.

Field Training. AeroMet trainers not only run the smoke generators, they build them. This keeps mechanical problems to a minimum resulting in less downtime during a training event. Because we monitor our emissions with a computer, we are able to maintain precise opacity values during testing. This makes testing easier for our trainees as reflected in our >85% passage rate on the first testing run. Our field-training event is usually completed in less than two hours. Our smoke school conforms to all U.S. EPA Method 9 testing requirements and is not easy, but we have taken the guesswork out of the testing and made it more of a science.

Cost. Our price for smoke school is the lowest in the country. Through our innovative techniques to save our clients time and money, we have developed an efficient program that is profitable to us as well as cost-effective to our clients.

On-Site Training. For larger groups, AeroMet will come to your site and have a smoke school exclusively for your employees. The removal of travel time and expenses can result in a serious savings to your company. Visit our website or call for a quote to see if a private training session would be a cost-effective solution for your company. A proposal for your company will be sent within 2 business days of request.

Registration. We offer four convenient methods for registration; via phone, fax, mail or online at www.aeromet.org.
