EPA Ozone Monitor Maps

Ozone Action Days

Air Division
Planning & Air Quality Analysis Branch

Tony Davis, Branch Manager - (501) 682-0767

""
In addition to the AQI, the EPA works through state air agencies to produce animated maps depicting the buildup of ozone concentrations during each day. These animated ozone maps are available on the Internet. Experience in other areas indicates that when television stations use the animated ozone maps to depict the formation and movement of ground-level ozone on high ozone days, public awareness of Ozone Action Days is greatly magnified and voluntary actions increase. These animated ozone maps are provided to TV stations through weather service providers (WSPs). TV stations interested in obtaining high-resolution ozone maps should contact their WSP or ADEQ to coordinate.

It also contains general information about air pollution, as well as archived, real-time and forecast data for ground-level ozone. Other information provided includes the effects of air pollution, steps you can take to protect your health and reduce pollution, and links to state and local air pollution and AQI information.

  • By 2:00 p.m., ADEQ's web site posts the daily ozone forecast for central Arkansas. Other data includes recent ozone forecasts and a live feed of the animated ozone map for Arkansas and adjacent states.

  • By 9:00 a.m., ADEQ's web site posts the daily AQI (Little Rock)/daily AQI (Springdale) for the worst pollutant (i.e., usually ozone during ozone season).

  • Metroplan is sponsoring the local Ozone Action Days site at www.ozoneactiondays.org/. It currently provides a program overview, general information about ozone, who is at risk to the health effects, things to do to reduce ozone formation, and links to other interesting sites.
