ADEQ will be receiving American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act monies for the
following projects
 |
Arkansas has received funding from
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
made possible by the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and
Governor Mike Beebe to reduce emissions
from diesel engines in the state. The
Arkansas Department of Environmental
Quality (ADEQ) is offering these funds
as a competitive funding assistance
opportunity entitled “Reduce Emissions
from Diesels (Go RED!).” Public and
private entities and non-profit
organizations in Arkansas are eligible
to receive funding. The funding
assistance will be awarded on a
competitive basis, and projects that are
selected for awards must reduce diesel
emissions in Arkansas.

ADEQ has been awarded
$793,566 from the United States
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The total project
cost is $904,505. The City of Little
Rock and participating counties will each provide
cost-share/leveraged resources for
each piece of diesel equipment that
is part of this project. The funds
will be used for the purchase and
installation of verified engine
upgrade kits which will result in
lower diesel emissions from each
piece of diesel equipment included
in the project.
This
project
will be complete by September 30, 2010.

The Arkansas Department
of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has
received American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act funding from the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency for the
purpose of assessing and cleaning up a
limited number of petroleum-contaminated
LUST sites in Arkansas. This additional
LUST money will provide the State
much-needed financial assistance to
respond to petroleum releases from
underground storage tanks (USTs) where tank owners are
unknown, or are unwilling or
financially unable to take the
necessary corrective actions
themselves. The funding will be used
under state-lead contracts to
perform site assessments,
environmental sampling, cleanup and
oversight activities as needed to
adequately address the project sites
in Arkansas. (Specific
project
information will be provided as site
work is initiated.)

This
project
supports water quality management
planning activities that are
authorized under the Clean Water Act
and the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009. TMDLs
(Total Maximum Daily Loads) for
select waterbodies listed on the
most recent list of impaired
waterbodies will be developed. This
will be accomplished by
sub-contracting the work to local
and/or private entities, including,
but not limited to private
consultants, academia, and local
governments.
A listing of stimulus projects throughout Arkansas can be found at the
Arkansas Recovery Office website.
