Statewide Solid Waste Management Plan

Roger Lawrence, Chief - (501) 682-0600

The General Assembly, through Act 1376 of 2001, codified as Arkansas Code Annotated §8-6-1901 et seq., specifically charged the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality with developing a comprehensive Statewide Solid Waste Management Plan and minimum requirements for the development of new waste management plans by Regional Solid Waste Management Boards.

Members of the Department and Regional Solid Waste Management Districts across the State met over several months identifying issues that needed to be developed, changed, and redefined. The Statewide Solid Waste Management Plan became effective November 1, 2003, with annual updates thereafter, and will provide progress toward addressing issues identified in the meetings.

Regional Solid Waste Management Boards are required to follow the guidelines provided in Part Two of the Statewide Solid Waste Plan and to present their plans to the Department for approval by November 1, 2004, with annual updates thereafter.

The comprehensive Statewide Solid Waste Management Plan is made available to the public by linking to the following:
