The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has a variety of solid waste related
publications on its Office of Solid Waste Web site –
www.epa.gov/epawaste/. If you are looking for general information or educational
materials about recycling, pollution prevention, composting, household hazardous
waste or other solid waste issues, this is a good place to start. Click on a topic

OR click on publications in the Waste Quick Finder box to search for publications
by topic or from an alphabetical list.
For Arkansas-specific information, we are pleased to provide the following publications
(all files are in Adobe Acrobat, i.e., are PDFs):
Note: Some of these publications are old, but still contain
useful information. Please contact us if you have any questions about the information’s
current accuracy.
Planning and Implementing Community Recycling in Arkansas (1990) – The
77th Arkansas General Assembly (1989), passed Act 934 mandating that
recycling be incorporated into all solid waste management plans and that each government
entity submit a plan by July 1, 1991. This manual was developed to help communities
meet this requirement. The complete manual is available as one Adobe Acrobat file
or as three separate sections (also pdfs).
Arkansas Can-Do: Opening Opportunities Through Recycling (2002) – This
manual was developed for a conference for facilities working with developmentally
disabled adults, but much of the information is useful for anyone interested in
starting a recycling program. You can open it as a complete manual or as smaller
sections.
Planning Resources for Schools – This series of short publications
will provide ideas for developing waste reduction and recycling programs. Although
designed for schools, the information is also applicable to businesses, communities,
organizations and even individuals.
Composting Resources – Composting (including composting with
worms or "vermicomposting") turns yard/garden debris, food scraps, waste
paper and other organic wastes into a rich soil amendment you can use in your yard,
garden or potted plants. These publications will help you learn more about composting
at home, including how to set up and maintain bins.
Waste Reduction Fact Sheets – Flyers on various topics that can help reduce
waste in your business, community and home.
