The Watershed Outreach and Education section helps engage the public in the Department’s mission by
developing and promoting local watershed groups that take responsibility for environmental protection in their
community. The Watershed Coordinator offers assistance to citizens interested in
voluntary approaches to watershed management and conservation. The Environmental Outreach Section also supports
the activities of the Arkansas Watershed Advisory Group and maintains
AWAG’s comprehensive website.
The Watershed Outreach and Education section offers a
variety of programs to facilitate and promote awareness, appreciation,
knowledge and stewardship of water resources. One example is National
Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) which facilitates and
promotes awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship of water
resources in Arkansas schools.
-
National Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an international,
interdisciplinary, water science and education program for formal and non-formal educators of K-12 students.
The goal of the Project WET program is to facilitate and promote the awareness, appreciation, knowledge and
stewardship of water resources through the development and dissemination of classroom ready teaching aids and
the establishment of state and internationally sponsored Project WET programs.
