Investigation Comment:
On March 23, 2017, ADEQ Inspector Skyler Schlick investigated the fish kill. There were no dead fish observed in a 300 foot section of Whitewater Creek. The water was fairly clear and no visual abnormalities were noted in the water. There was a lift station within approximately 25 feet of Whitewater Creek. There was toilet paper that was observed on the concrete pad of the lift station. Additionally, there appeared to be an erosive path on the bank of Whitewater Creek where the sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) entered the creek. The City of Mountain View was contacted view phone on March 24, 2017. Debbie Walker confirmed that there was a SSO of approximately 3,000 gallons at this location. A Dissolved Oxygen (DO) reading was recorded (10.03mg/l) north of the SSO location in Whitewater Creek. A second DO reading was recorded (10.15 mg/l) south of the SSO location in Whitewater Creek. Readings for A pH were also recorded for Whitewater Creek and are as follows: 8.27 s.u. north of the SSO location and 8.19 s.u. south of the SSO location. The reported fish kill was likely caused by the SSO that reached Whitewater Creek. [Last modified by Kerri McCabe on 4/4/2017 11:56 AM]
