ADEQ ANNOUNCES E-WASTE GRANT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is accepting applications for its 2015 electronic waste grants round. The deadline for filing grant applications is Sept. 1, 2015, and the ADEQ anticipates announcing the grant recipients by the end of this year.

The ADEQ again expects approximately $200,000 in grant funds to be available this year. In 2014 the ADEQ awarded grants totaling $200,000 to three recipients.

The e-waste grants program, established by state law, provides funding each year to eligible entities to assist in the proper recycling or disposal of electronic wastes in Arkansas. Private industries, schools, colleges and universities, cities and counties, Regional Solid Waste Management Districts, non-profit organizations, state or local government agencies, and the ADEQ are examples of entities eligible to apply for funding. The grant program is funded through the sales of surplus used computers and other equipment from state agencies.

E-waste grant guidelines and application forms are available on the ADEQ website at: http://www.adeq.state.ar.us/poa/recycling/financial/pdfs/e-waste_grants_guidelines-application.pdf. Information is also available by contacting Robert Hunter, manager of the Recycling Branch in the ADEQ Public Outreach and Assistance Division at 501-682-0609; hunter@adeq.state.ar.us.
