Deadline for Environmental Awards Approaching

NORTH LITTLE ROCK - The deadline to submit applications to the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) for two environmental awards is quickly approaching. ADEQ will accept applications through February 24, 2017 for its annual Environmental Stewardship Award, or “ENVY award,” and the Arkansas Environmental Technology Award, also known as the “TECHe Award.”

This year marks the 12th anniversary for the ENVY Award and the 2nd anniversary for the TECHe Award.

The ENVY Award was established in 2005 to honor a major contribution by an individual or organization involving environmental stewardship activities in Arkansas. The winner of last year’s award was the Kraft-Heinz Company of Fort Smith.

The TECHe Award honors new advances in technology or the innovative use of technology to protect and enhance the state’s environment. Last year’s TECHe Award winner was Aerojet Rocketdyne Solar Farm at Highland Industrial Park in East Camden.

This year, ADEQ is also accepting TECHe applications from students who are in grades 9-12. They will be considered for special recognition for computer or technology-based uses for environmental projects. One of the students will receive a $1,000 college scholarship.

Applicants will select one of the following organizational categories: government, industry, or nonprofit. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries against other applications within the same category. Finalists will be chosen from each group, and the overall winners will be chosen by the director of ADEQ.

ADEQ employees and their children are not eligible for the awards.
