Food Waste Forum for Colleges and Universities Scheduled

NORTH LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and the Arkansas Recycling Coalition invite food service professionals and others interested in learning how Arkansas campuses are diverting tons of wasted food from landfills to attend �Reducing Food Waste: A Forum for Colleges and Universities.�

The forum will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 9:30 a.m.�2:30 p.m. at the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute (UA-PTC-CAHMI), located at 13000 Interstate 30, in Little Rock. There is no charge to attend, but registration by April 26th is required for planning purposes. Visit www.adeq.state.ar.us/poa/recycling/food-waste/ to register.
Speakers will discuss waste diversion options�including source reduction, feeding people, and composting�and how these can be implemented on college and university campuses. Scheduled speakers include:
� Laura Lapp, Vice President, Wellness and Sustainability, Chartwells Higher Education
� Satoko Kato, Visiting Assistant Professor, University of Arkansas School of Law
� Cameron Caja, Visiting Student Program Coordinator and Founder, Razorback Food Recovery, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
� Shanda Thornton, 3D Instructor, UA-PTC-CAHMI
The forum will also include a tour of the Institute to learn more about how reducing food waste is incorporated into its educational programs.
