Stakeholder Input Sought on Storage Tanks Regulations
NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is seeking stakeholder input on proposed revisions to regulations governing regulated storage tanks in Arkansas. The stakeholders meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at ADEQ headquarters, 5301 Northshore Drive, North Little Rock, in the Commission Room.
The 2015 federal update is the first major revision to the federal underground storage tank (UST) regulations since 1988. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the 2015 update strengthens the 1988 federal UST regulations by increasing emphasis on properly operating and maintaining UST equipment. The update provides new testing, monitoring, inspection, and operating requirements for owners of UST systems. The 2015 update also requires states to seek or renew State Program Approval (SPA) to implement the federal UST program in lieu of EPA.
Several primary stakeholders have been identified and are expected to attend the meeting, including members of the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association, the Arkansas Environmental Federation, the Arkansas Petroleum Council, and the Advisory Committee on Petroleum Storage Tanks. ADEQ also encourages anyone with an interest in the regulation and management of UST systems in Arkansas to attend the meeting to provide input on proposed revisions to UST program requirements.
This is an informal meeting and no official comments will be taken for the record. Those wishing to make official comments for the record will have an opportunity to do so at a future formal public hearing or during the public comment period for any proposed regulatory changes made by ADEQ.
