Investigation Comment:
On August 10, 2022, I contacted Rachel Johnson, GP-Crossett Environmental Compliance, and informed her of the complaint received. In July 2022, Bakelite purchased the resins manufacturing facility, but GP still accepts and treats all stormwater and process wastewater. Ms. Johnson stated that the entire area of the railyard and Bakelite facility drains to the GP wastewater treatment plant, and there is no discharge of stormwater to waters of the State. No further follow-up is needed for this complaint. Ms. Johnson stated she would contact Bakelite to correct any measures that could be affecting the wastewater treatment plant. Description Comment:
NRC (#1343613) notified EM that an anonymous caller reported the Bakelite Synthetics / GP Chemical company located at 100 Mill Supply Road, Crossett is releasing Styrene Maleic Anhydride (SMA) Polymer Pellets onto the ground. The pellets are subsequently being washed into a storm drain. Also reported was the release of urea from rail cars, which is also being washed down the storm drain.
