ABB is a global leader in electrification and automation, offering products and solutions that help industries, utilities, and communities operate more efficiently and sustainably. With a long history of engineering excellence and a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, ABB works to accelerate the transition to a more productive, low-carbon future.

Fort Smith, Ark., is the global headquarters for the division of ABB focused on industrial electric motors. Producing ABB and ABB Baldor-Reliance® motors, ABB's products are reliable, durable and energy efficient. Manufacturing facilities in Fort Smith and Ozark provide a strong economic foundation for the Arkansas River Valley and produce motors sold worldwide. Both locations contribute to ABB’s mission of building a more efficient, sustainable, and innovative future.

ABB embeds health, safety, environment, energy efficiency, and security into all aspects of operations. The company is committed to reducing environmental impact, improving resource efficiency, and integrating risk-based environmental planning across each manufacturing site.

ABB's Stated Sustainability Goals

  • 80% reduction of Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 2030 (baseline 2019)
  • 100% reduction of Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2050
  • 25% reduction of Scope 3 emissions by 2030 (baseline 2022)
  • 90% reduction of Scope 3 emissions by 2050
  • Zero Waste to Landfill and reduced waste generation by 2030
  • Circularity applied to 80% of ABB products and systems by 2030

All ABB facilities operate under a strong environmental policy and third-party audited Environmental Management System, ensuring responsible operations and continuous improvement. Together, ABB’s Arkansas teams are helping drive environmental progress, community engagement, and a cleaner, more sustainable future for the Natural State. A partnership with Evans Boys and Girls Club promotes reducing food waste and strengthening local environmental awareness through gardening, composting, and sustainability education.

  • Recurring collection and delivery of used coffee grounds to support composting.
  • Earth Day celebration funded and staffed by ABB, including:
    • Planting 20 trees, including nut trees
    • Volunteer workday with ABB employees and local utility partners
    • Construction of a new covered greenhouse supporting year-round learning
  • Holiday sustainability lesson focused on practical conservation behaviors and reuse-themed crafts.

This project enriches environmental education, strengthens community partnerships, and supports ABB’s zero waste objectives through active, hands-on engagement.
