DEADLINE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS APPROACHING

The deadline to submit nominations to the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) for two environmental awards is approaching. ADEQ will accept nominations through March 7, 2016 for its annual Environmental Stewardship Award, or ENVY award, and a new award called the Arkansas Environmental Technology Award.

The inaugural Arkansas Environmental Technology Award will recognize new or innovative use of technology that broke ground in protecting resources or improving the environment. This award will recognize new or unique programs or activities that utilize technological development or implementation that go beyond traditional environmental control measures, approaches, or outcomes for Arkansas.

The ENVY Award, which has been presented since 2005, honors a major contribution by an individual or organization involving environmental stewardship activities in Arkansas. Last year the City of Fayetteville won the award for its “Recycle Something” campaign.

Anyone can submit a nomination for themselves or another organization, business or individual. Nominations are limited to 100 words and must include contact information for the nominee and the person submitting the nomination.

Nominations must be postmarked by March 7, 2016 or emailed by 4:30 p.m. Central Time that day in order to be considered for the award. Nominations will be reviewed by ADEQ staff and nominees will be asked to submit formal applications by March 22.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on April 22, 2016. Details on the ceremony will be announced closer to the event.

A panel of judges will narrow the entries to a group of finalists for the ENVY Award and Arkansas Environmental Technology Award. Finalists will be recognized at the ceremony where the winners of each award will be announced.

Nominations should be addressed to: ENVY Award Packet OR Arkansas Environmental Technology Award Packet, Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, 5301 Northshore Drive, North Little Rock, AR 72118. Completed nomination forms can also be emailed to: EnvyAward@adeq.state.ar.us.

More information on the criteria for the awards and paper nomination packets can be obtained by contacting Clay Dickinson in ADEQ’s Business Assistance Program, telephone, 501-682-0820; e-mail, dickinson@adeq.state.ar.us, or by accessing the ENVY Award link in the “What’s New at ADEQ?” box on the agency’s website at www.adeq.state.ar.us. An electronic copy of the nomination packet for the awards is available on the website.

ADEQ employees and programs are not eligible for the awards.
