Mayflower Oil Spill

The information below relates to a pipeline spill in a residential neighborhood that occurred in Mayflower on March 29, 2013.

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality is among a number of state agencies who have been on site since minutes after the spill was reported. The response and remediation efforts have been a coordinated effort between EPA, DEQ, the Arkansas Department of Health, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Faulkner County, the city of Mayflower, the responsible party (ExxonMobil) and many others. DEQ is closely reviewing the cleanup and has had inspectors conducting sampling at a number of locations in a cove of Lake Conway and the main body of the lake. The Department will continue to monitor the surface water in the impacted areas and post regular updates. (Map of DEQ Water Sampling Locations)

Continuous air quality monitoring was conducted by both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and ExxonMobil. The air monitoring data from both EPA and ExxonMobil were reviewed by the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH). ADH concluded the data results were similar for all data collected.
